Hardware Problem

Golem, the computer on which the Cafe runs, has sadly passed away. A replacement should be up and running late next week – Jacques is working on it, for which we’re very grateful.

Until then, you can leave comments at the loose ends thread here.

Thanks again for your patience.

Update (6 May) The cafe is now visible again, but not fully operational. With any luck it will be working properly in a couple of days.

Anyone interested in the fate that befell Golem can google +g5 +”coolant leak”.

It’s an … umh … interesting design decision to perch two liquid-cooled CPUs directly above the power supply.

Still, Golem III had a good long run, before its spectacular death (Jan 2005-today). I hope Golem IV does as well.

I guess it is sort of fitting that something made of unfired clay was destroyed by water.

Wow! That really is a spectacular way to go.
